How did Living Catalyst come to be?

Because of having a traumatic childhood with strife, heartbreak, and addiction, I have spent the last decade in an attempt to peel back the layers of trauma, with progressive levels of learning, listening, and healing. Through dedication, I have found joy and purpose in self-improvement and have finally created a foundation of my own to stand upon. I am ready to reach out and bring what knowledge has accumulated to the table, while also continuing to be openminded and curious and learning everything I can to better serve and heal myself and others.

While trying to better understand developmental trauma, I read The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D. Neurofeedback was described in Chapter 19, with the title of “Applied Neuroscience: Rewiring the Fear-Driven Mind with Brain/Computer Interface Technology.” To say it piqued my interest would be an understatement; it deeply resonated with my belief that the majority of our problems could and would be fixed, if only our brains were optimally functioning.
Neurofeedback focuses on calming a nervous system that is wound too tightly (anxiety) or activating a system that isn’t as connected and energetic as it should be (depression). Having personally dealt with attempting to change my own conglomeration of bad habits, I can attest to the struggle of change while the system is locked due to old traumas. Removing these barriers helps our system to relax its guard and allows the younger, more curious parts of ourselves to re-integrate, because it is safe.
Providing neurofeedback brings meaning and joy into my life, while I continue my education. I am indebted and deeply grateful to Lydia with Widening Circles, LLC, for this opportunity and training.
